Kamma // ‘The Dying Swans Project’ | Smadar Goshen

Commission work for ‘The Dying Swans Project’ of Gauthier Dance company. A contemporary comment on the iconic Dying Swan Solo.

Kamma is a commission work, a solo created for ‘The Dying Swans Project’ of Gauthier Dance company in Stuttgart, 2021.

It’s a contemporary filmed comment on the iconic Dying Swan Solo.

The project was initiated and hosted by Eric Gauthier, the director of  the renewed Gauthier Dance company in Stuttgart. During the second covid-19 pandemic lockdown in Germany, Gauthier invited 16 choreographers to participate ‘The Dying Swans’ project. Each choreographer was commissioned to create a three minutes filmed solo for one of the dancers in the company.

As part of the project, Goshen collaborated with a musician and a cinematographer who joined her vision and creation.

Kamma is a contemporary comment on the iconic solo describing the last moments in the life of a swan.

In it’s choreographic and aesthetic language, Kamma refers to the tragedy of isolation in times of pandemic, just as much as it refers to the possible tragedy of life given to the  stage spot light.

“The Dying Swans Project” is a Gauthier Dance//Dance Company Theaterhaus Stuttgart production.
