Smadar Goshen is a dance maker, a performer and a trainer. She completed her Bachelors degree in dance and her Masters degree in choreography at the Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance (JAMD). Born in Israel, she had shifted her professional base to Stuttgart since 2019.

Smadar is a certified Gaga teacher as well as GYROTONIC & GYROKINESIS® Trainer and Pre-Trainer. Her extensive knowledge about the moving body is an important part of her work with both, professional and non-professional movers.

In the current yearbook of the magazine Tanz, she was honored as one of the 10 most promising pioneer dance makers in Germany.

She created her first choreography „Urbania” in 2011 at the invitation of the Shades in Dance Festival at the Suzanne Dellal Centre, Tel Aviv. Since then, she has been choreographing, producing and performing her pieces around the world on various platforms such as Machol Acher Festival at Suzanne Dellal Centre (Tel-Aviv, Israel), Machol Shalem Dance Festival (Jerusalem, Israel), Dance Waves Festival (Nicosia, Cyprus), Beijing International Ballet and Choreography Competition (China), the residency program of Derida Dance Center in Sofia (Bulgaria) and more.

Since 2020 Smadar has been choreographing and producing in Germany, among her many pieces are the full-length productions Peninsula-Flora (duet, 2020), Hoomans (quartet, 2021), Grand Noir (group, 2022), Ken (solo, 2024) and Body that Stands (trio, 2025).

She also choreographed the solo Kamma for the renowned dance company Gauthier Dance as part of “The Dying Swans Project”.

Her pieces often deal with the tension between the individual nature of beings and their innate need for eco-systems and/or social environments. Weaving theatrical elements along with highly sensitive and detailed physical expression Goshen’s creation embody the absurdity, conflicts, joy, passion and delicacy embedded in the essence of existence. Many of her creations are designed for bringing the audience near and surrounding the performers, inviting her audience to observe closely and in details.

In the 2023 yearbook of the magazine tanz, Smadar Goshen was honored as one of the 10 most promising dance pioneers. In the 2024/25 season, she is part of the residency programme of the Réseau GRAND LUXE network with special support from the Theater Freiburg’s dance department. Smadar Goshen has received a three-year conceptual grant from the City of Stuttgart and the Landesverband Freie Tanz- und Theaterschaffende Baden Württemberg e.V. with funds from the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of the State of Baden‑Württemberg for her artistic work from 2024 to 2026.
