Karkerou | Potsdam & Brandenburg
The animal and plant universe of the mobile dance piece “Karkerou” is fascinating and mysterious. All living beings create their own unique worlds, cleverly adapt to their surroundings, and find ways to communicate with one another. Yet we humans can often only guess what they are telling each other.
Together with two dancers, the young audience embarks on a moving journey of discovery in “Karkerou.” What kind of creatures will they encounter? Are they shy and hiding? Or are they excited and bustling around? What kinds of sounds do they make, and can we imagine what they mean? How do they transform and camouflage themselves – and why?
Many things may seem bizarre at first glance, but when we start paying attention to the hidden realms of flora and fauna, we may discover an immense new world.
The mobile dance piece “Karkerou” brings dance directly into the school, transforming a familiar environment into a vibrant world of sound and movement. Dance, music, and sound enter into dialogue with the children. A lively soundscape accompanies the choreographic journey and creates space for curiosity and imagination. The children sit close to the dancers, right in the middle of the action, and at certain moments can change their position in the room, experiencing the piece from new perspectives again and again.
“Karkerou” is an invitation to engage in an artistic experience and gently explore emotions connected to everyday life. The children enter a new space: sometimes it requires courage, sometimes restraint, sometimes patience. Often, it feels better simply to observe at first before finding one’s own way of approaching and engaging.
