Workshop ‘Improvisation and tools for material development’

In correspondence to her current research, Smadar Goshen’s practice explores the wide scale between imitation and innovation in movement. Via improvisation and composition scores, her classes offered as part of her residency at CAMPUS PCS will examine one of the most basic tools embedded in our practice as movers – imitation. In her sessions she will deconstruct the instinctive act of imitation and study situations in which it serves as a key for development and communication, versus those in which it stands in the way of oneself to discover and develop a unique language. The practice aims to connect the participants with their personal ‘engines’ for movement and dance, asking what really moves us, both in body and in spirit, and how can we express it individually, as well as a group.
