Audition Workshop | Open Call

For her next production, choreographer Smadar Goshen is looking for 5 female-identifying professional dancers & performers (30+), based in Germany. We are looking for performers who sense a strong affiliation and curiosity towards the theme (read below). Beyond physical abilities, performers should be experienced and feel comfortable working with text, both as raw material for research and creative process in the studio, and on stage.

About the project

The dance piece engages with Greek tragedies and the question of truth today. It observes the art of role-playing as borrowing identity and the act of translation as reclaiming authorship. What happens when an event or encounter is translated from one medium to another? How do power relations shift between language, storytelling, narrative framing—and the physical actions unfolding in real time? What is real, and what is fabricated?

The creation process draws inspiration from characters and texts from the canon of Greek tragedy, with a particular focus on The Iliad. In addition, we will work with writings by the French philosopher Simone Weil, who repeatedly turns to Greek classics while dismantling the notion of “power” (force) and tracing its consequences—for those who wield it and for those drawn into its field.
